Scott HowlanD…

is a London-based, Newcastle-born writer, movement director, fight director, and intimacy director working across the West End, opera, theatre, and film. He holds an MA from The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA).

Recent collaborations include the Royal Ballet & Opera, The National Theatre, Glyndebourne, Young Vic, Royal College of Music, Royal Academy of Music, London Film School, and New Orleans Opera.

With over 20 years of training across Muay Thai, Jiu-Jitsu, Boxing, Kickboxing, and Kali, alongside weapons training (stick, knife, sword, and firearms) and dance training spanning contemporary, breakdance, and ballroom styles, Scott brings a broad range of physical expertise to the rehearsal room.

His practice combines movement, text, and stagecraft to create clear, dynamic, and emotionally resonant storytelling. Alongside his work as a director and choreographer, Scott writes original plays, libretti, and adaptations. His writing credits include Professional Suicide (Young Vic R&D; longlisted for the Northeast Playwrights Award), Nacht (commissioned by the Royal Ballet & Opera), Helen (commissioned by Battersea Arts Centre), and the award-winning play Grip.

Scott is a co-founder of Nothing to Perform, a London-based company developing new theatre, opera, and interdisciplinary performance.
